About Dr. Galit Avinoam-Dar
Dr. Galit Avinoam-Dar, specialist in plastic surgery, Mohs surgeon and facial reconstruction.
Dr. Galit Avinoam-Dar heads the Mohs surgery and skin cancer service in the plastic surgery department at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. She has been a board certified specialist in plastic surgery since 2006. She completed her studies at the Hebrew University's Hadassah medical school in Jerusalem, and then trained in plastic surgery at Soroka Hospital and Kaplan Hospital. On completing her residency she worked as a senior physician in the plastic surgery department at Kaplan Hospital, and in the various health funds.
From 2010 to 2013 Dr. Avinoam-Dar worked in Toronto, Canada, where she completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery for cutaneous cancers of the head and neck, and in facial reconstruction, at the University of Toronto.
On her return to Israel she joined the plastic surgery department at Sheba Tel HaShomer Hospital as a senior physician. From 2013 until 2026 she headed the Mohs surgery unit at Tel HaShomer and coordinated skin cancer and facial reconstruction care within the hospital's plastic surgery department. In that role she led the surgical treatment of melanoma and built collaborations with many departments across the hospital — dermatology, oncology, head and neck surgery, ophthalmology, general surgery, gynaecology and urology — all in order to give patients comprehensive, excellent care. Dr. Avinoam-Dar is a member of the Israeli Society of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Avinoam-Dar specialises in plastic surgery, Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction, with extensive experience in Israel and abroad. Among her specialties she performs Mohs surgery, considered the most effective method for treating skin cancer. She also performs surgery to excise benign and malignant skin tumours and lesions, botox injections for excessive sweating, mole removal and scar revision.
Dr. Avinoam-Dar is a member of the Israeli Society of Plastic Surgery, an international member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, and a member of the European Society for Micrographic Surgery, the European Association of Dermato-Oncology and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Mentor to young female doctors
Dr. Galit Avinoam-Dar takes part in a medical mentoring programme that pairs female doctors at the start of their careers with senior female doctors. Over roughly six months the mentor and mentee stay in contact, with the aim of helping at the beginning of the path and, it is hoped, advancing young female doctors within Israel's healthcare system.
The programme's purpose is to find ways for experienced doctors to help younger ones find their way in the system, whether in clinical medicine itself or towards higher achievement and key managerial and academic positions.
